GM consistently comes up with cool ideas, then royally screws them up in execution. Source: I have an 84 Cutlass with several of these ideas (plastisol, rear windows that don’t go down, the Computer Controlled Carb, etc).

They’ll spit out really cool shit (touchscreen interface, airbag, night vision), not wait for it to catch on, then chuck it in the bin until someone else makes it mainstream

It's the E4M Quadrajet right? I just read about it sounds like it does closed loop lambda control which is pretty cool. They make it sound like it worked fine for efficiency and if you wanted performance fuel economy be damned you can easily switch to an M4M Quadrajet easily.
What has your experience been?

Some stuff they spit out is really cool (CRT Touchscreens! Dent-resistant cars! The modern Crossover!) but some of the stuff they spit out really sucks (pre-88 fiero suspension, the Iron Puke, Plastisol coating, rear windows that don’t go down).

So far, so good. Mind you, I’ve only had it running for around 45 minutes during the 6 months I’ve owned the car.

Which GM was the “modern” crossover? I can’t think of any. You’ve got the AMC Eagle before crossovers were a thing, then the Pacifica also before they were a thing, and the Edge that coined the term crossover. I can’t think of what GM had that would have fit the definition before then.

Oh, I didn't realize this car was not driven from the your other posts

Yeah, it’s in storage for now. I’m going in for my license tomorrow.

Behold. The first modern car/minivan-based crossover.

There it is.

The iron duke is actually a stupid durable motor. The U.S. Postal trucks use em, and they haven’t built a new Grumman LLV since ‘94.
The window thing is pretty common among compacts of that era. K-cars and some others are like that.

Yes, but mine’s a mid-size Supreme. Also, Iron Dukes are durable, but they suck from a performance and NVH standpoint.

They’ve had a lot of screw ups but they’ve also had some cool things in their cars that other companies have adopted or will be adopting. Magnetic Ride Control was first seen in Cadillacs and now it’s found in tons of different cars worldwide. OnStar is w huge success for GM and a lot of companies took after them on it (a few companies even used OnStar in their cars for a little bit). Then there’s the new 4G Wifi available across the entire GM lineup, everyone is jumping on board to have that feature.

I agree. I hate you for this, but I agree.

I lived with one for about a year back in the mid 90s. It never acted funny, but it spent pretty much it’s entire life at wide-open-throttle because carb’d 231 Buick.

Ha Ha, now that is classic GM!
